چکیده

We give an example of a geometry in which the electrostatic force between a point charge and a neutral metallic object is repulsive. The example consists of a point charge centered above a thin metallic hemisphere, positioned concave up. We show that this geometry has a repulsive regime using both a simple analytical argument and an exact calculation for an analogous twodimensional geometry. Analogues of this geometry-induced repulsion can appear in many other contexts, including Casimir systems.

(Dated: February 2, 2008) We develop a systematic approach to calculating the electrostatic force between point charges in an arbitrary geometry with arbitrary boundary conditions. When the boundary is present, the simple expression for the force acting on a charge as “the charge times the field it is placed in” becomes ill-defined. However, this rule can be salvaged if the field in question is...

Selective Binding of Cyclic Nanopeptide with Halides and Ion Pairs; a DFT-D3 Study

In this article, theoretical studies on the selective complexation of the halide ions (F¯, Cl¯ and Br¯) and ion pairs (Na+F¯, Na+Cl¯ and Na+Br¯) with the cyclic nano-hexapeptide (CP) composed of L-proline have been performed in the gas phase. In order to calculate the dispersion interaction energies of the CP and ions, DFT-D3 calculations at the M05-2X-D3/6-31G(d) level was employed. Based on t...
